“This image comes from a searing memory. I was driving in the early morning from Tallahassee to Marianna Florida. As I passed a vacant lot off of Apalachee Parkway, I glimpsed a gorgeous palm tree lit by the morning sun against a much darker background of oak shrouded with spanish moss. She, the palm, so brilliant and golden appeared as if she were an opera diva spotlighted on stage. I went back the next few mornings at the same time when I had the chance to take color notes, and a few photos. After a number of studio sessions, I think I got it. That vacant lot is no more. Now there is some alehouse/restaurant planted there. The Palm is gone...so goes Florida.” - Keith McCulloch
