Resident spearheads pop-up contemporary art shows
Even collectors who trek to Miami for Art Basel fair week — coming up in a little more than a week — might not be aware of the many artists who live in South Florida but show all over the world.
But that’s not the only reason resident Sofia Vollmer Maduro and Catherine McCulloch Vaughan Williams plan to mount up to three pop-up contemporary art exhibitions near Palm Beach this season.
There’s also the burgeoning growth of West Palm Beach, evidenced by the building boom, the expansion of the Norton Museum of Art and the advent in January of Art Miami organizers’ Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary fair.
“There is room in the market for more contemporary art exhibitions,” Vaughan Williams said. “We thought that pop-ups were a great way to bring quality art here during the season without taking a gallery space.”
