About Francois Anton
Francois Anton was born in Algeria in 1944. Anton eventually moved to Béziers in the south of France, where he currently lives and works. In his evocative figurative paintings, he uses brushwork and palette to create his signature style, which is slightly reminiscent of Francis Bacon.
La Reine, Anton's portrait of Marie Antoinette, appears to be formal and regal; however, the mixed media component, composition and technique add a contemporary edge. In recent years, the artist has shown very few portraits of women, making this particular piece from an early body of work, far more collectible and unique.
