About Patricia Nix

Patricia Nix (b. 1937) is amongst the foremost female American artists working in both painting and sculpture today. Born in Texas, Nix has worked in New York, France and Florida, as her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world. Her numerous private collectors are fiercely loyal, valuing this inspiring woman and the original works only she can create. Nix has been called heir to both Joseph Cornell and the female surrealists, though her very personal style has made her a distinctive and compelling presence in contemporary art.

I first saw Heaven II when I visited Nix’s studio in the National Arts Club in NYC in 1986, after it had been featured in her show at the Staten Island Museum. I was drawn to the historical and whimsical elements in the work while appreciating that, like all of Nix’s sculptures, it would continue to provoke and to please for years to come.
