About Wong Kan Tai
Wong Kan Tai (b. 1957) is a Hong Kong-based photographer and photojournalist. Wong started his long career as a photojournalist in the late 1970s after studying photography at the Tokyo Institute of Polytechnics.
Tibetan is one of the images from his book project “Vajrayana” which documents his travels through Tibet beginning in 1991. This photograph captures the rapturous moment of the first rainfall on the Tibetan plateau.
The custom-designed wooden glazed frame reflects the orange saffron color of the monks' robes commonly seen in Tibet and the Himalayas. The two brass ornaments, symbolizing peace and happiness, echo the ornamental elements in ancient Asian decorative art.
