About Russel Wong

Russel Wong (b. 1961) is a highly-acclaimed Singaporean photographer whose work is well-known throughout Asia. Often called the “Richard Avedon of Singapore”, he is most recognized for his portrait photography of film and music legends, having had his work grace the cover of Time (magazine) numerous times.

Russel Wong was the film still photographer for the acclaimed film “Hero”. This shot of Zhang Ziyi, the film’s star, remains one of his favorites. He wanted to catch her midair with different sword placements, the overall composition emphasizing the richness of the deep red hues. The solid custom designed wood frame anchors the piece.
